I love making things that are special. You’ll know that by now.
I’ve spent the last 23 years making things that are new, not copies or clones of things that already exist.
But….. for a while I’ve been thinking about creating something, in a limited series that takes the best of both worlds.
The Tone Bender Mk1.5 pedal is one of the rarest fuzz pedals on the planet.
There’s estimated to be less than 50 of them left in existence.
They sell (on the very rare occasion they appear on Ebay or Reverb for upwards of $5000 dollars.
I’m lucky enough to have one of them here in the collection, from a dear friend.
It’s an amazing sounding fuzz – renown for it’s tighter bottom end and ability to cut through a mix beautifully. Used by such icons as George Harrison, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, the Mk 1.5 is revered for its sounds as much as it’s scarcity.
At the heart of the Tone Bender Mk1.5 are two OC75 transistors. To say these transistors are rare is an understatement. But without these specific transistors, there is no Tone bender Mk1.5.
I’ve managed to secure a small stock of these – original, new-old-stock OC75s.
(They were incredibly expensive… but if this was going to deliver the authentic Mk1.5 sound, it has to be the exact same transistors).
There are some companies which have made their version of the Tone Bender Mk1.5.
However, there is a huge difference between our creation and theirs – we have an original unit to A/B against. And every Delilah will be A/B’d against the original Mk1.5.
You are guaranteed to get that rare, elusive tone.
Having said all that…. I’ve always endeavored to offer new features, and Delilah is no different. In addition to the Volume and Fuzz (Level and Attack controls on the TB Mk1.5) Delilah has a control to adjust the gate level and a control to fine tune the voltage the pedal is receiving (allowing you to access the desirable sounds a fuzz achieves when the battery is running down).
When these two additional controls are wound back, Delilah operates exactly as an original Tone Bender Mk1.5. But the option is there for you to further tailor and adjust the sound, with these two additional dials, if you should wish to do so.
Delilah runs from a standard DC 9 volt power supply. Through some alchemical farnagling, Delilah generates the required reverse polarity supply for the PNP OC75 transistors. The power supply section of Delilah delivers the same power as a zinc carbon 9 volt battery – just with the ability to control the voltage by choice, rather than by the whims of zinc consumption by the ammonium chloride electrolyte – or as is more commonly referred to, ‘going flat’).
I’ll be posting more video and images over the coming weeks.
Delilah will be available on Thursday the 30th of October in a very small quantity (we’ve got a batch of the OC75’s in the workshop now, enough for 34 units) but are hoping to secure some more in the coming days.
Obviously, this page is not for the general public, so I would ask that you refrain from sharing it or any of the content with anyone else.
